Advocacy across the state and the nation

April was a busy month for advocacy at INHF. While the state legislature worked to wrap up the 2024 legislative session, INHF has also been actively advocating for federal policy that supports conservation and creates opportunities for outdoor recreation.  

A group of INHF staff and board travelled to Washington D.C. as part of the Land Trust Alliance Advocacy Days fly-in. They joined land trust leaders from across the country to advocate for Farm Bill conservation programs, like the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program, as well as reauthorization of the North American Wetlands Conservation Act and Forest Legacy Program.  

INHF met with members of the Iowa delegation, their staff, and lead agency officials at USDA to share updates about INHF projects and the importance of public-private partnerships that help keep working farms in working hands and create opportunities for outdoor recreation.  

Back in Iowa, INHF had the privilege of showing Senator Ernst the power of partnerships, first-hand. Joined by conservation partners, INHF hosted a tour of the Little Sioux Scout Ranch property to demonstrate the value that the protected property will provide the surrounding natural resources and community.  

INHF will continue to engage with partners and supporters to advocate for state and federal policy that help protect and restore Iowa’s land, water and wildlife. Thank you for your continued advocacy and thank you to the elected officials and their staff who listen to Nature’s Advocates.
