Like Iowa’s trail system, the Iowa by Trail website gets bigger and better every year. INHF completed Phase I expansions of the site this summer. New features include clickable introduction pages for each of the 42 profiled trailswith links to maps, trail facts and descriptions, trail managers, local tourism and related websites. Twelve trails have additional maps of nearby nature areas and precise trailhead locations. The project received significant financial support from the Iowa Department of Transportation. “Unlike our neighbors in Minnesota and Missouri, Iowa hasn’t lived up to the promise trails have to offerincluding tourism, economic development and public health,” said Cathy Engstrom, INHF Communications Director. “Giving our trails a better online presence is a step in that direction.” INHF is now raising funds and gathering user feedback for what expansions to include in Phase II. Options include more trails, additional types of maps and interactive features.
