BioBlitz 2008
Here's what we've found so far...

At the first and second  BioBlitzes, held over the summer of 2007, more than 50 scientists tracked down at least 200 plant species, 35 fish species, 100 stream invertebrates, 13 mussels, 19 reptiles, 11 amphibians, 13 mammals, 15 butterfly species, 116 fungi, 5 liverwort taxa, 22 mosses, 51 lichens, and at least 92 bird species—for a total of more than 800 species.

Scientists worked hard in the lab to identify some organisms that could not be identified in the field, and they are sure to find more species this summer!  INHF staff, taxon team leaders, and other conservation biologists are eagerly awaiting this summer’s third and fourth BioBlitzes, when we can share this discovery process with the public.

For a complete species list, please give scientists time to identify specimens in the lab. Marlene Ehresman can answer questions about species lists.
