Welcome to the online version of Landowner’s Options: Safeguarding Iowa’s natural resources for the future. This website and its related booklet are designed to help Iowa’s landowners explore methods for permanently protecting their land’s special natural features.
This online version is based on the 6th edition of Landowner’s Options, published in 2007. It contains all of the original text and many of the original photos. If you like what you see here, feel free to order a free copy of the 52-page print version.
All materials in the print and online version are copyrighted by the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation. For permission to reprint or share any text or images, contact INHF’s Cathy Engstrom by e-mail or at 515-288-1846, ext. 14.
Landowner’s Options is published by the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, a nonprofit conservation group that protects Iowa’s land, water and wildlife “for those who follow.”
INHF printed the first edition of Landowner’s Options in 1982, and you’re reading the 6th edition now. In the meantime, INHF has helped Iowa’s landowners protect nearly 100,000 acres of Iowa’s special places. Some of these sites are now operated as public natural areas while others remain in private ownership.
For personalized, confidential information about protecting your land’s natural resources, feel free to contact our friendly staff by e-mail or at 800-475-1846. You can also contact public and private groups listed in our Conservation Partners section.
The 6th edition of Landowner’s Options was published in April 2007. While it would be impossible to name all the people who assisted in its creation, here’s a start:
Editor: Cathy Engstrom, INHF
Graphic Designer: Grant Baker
Assistant writers & reviewers: Bruce Mountain (attorney) and the rest of INHF’s staff and interns
Peer Reviewers:
The conservation-minded families who are profiled within
Everyone who worked on the previous five editions: INHF’s Mark Ackelson, Anita O’Gara and many others
