INHF wins trail award

This article first appeared in INHF's Spring 2008 magazine.

Lisa Hein, INHF program and planning director, and Andrea Chase, INHF trails coordinator, show off a recent award that recognizes INHF for our leadership in Iowa trails.

INHF received the Outstanding Leadership and Dedication Award for our work with Iowa trails.

The award was presented at the Mid America Trails and Greenways Conference in Chicago in December 2007. Two awards are presented for each state: one for an organization and one for a trail and greenway project.

INHF received Iowa’s organizational award, and the Central Iowa Trails plan received the trail and greenway award. The Central Iowa Trail Plan was initially developed in the mid-1990s by several Iowa county conservation boards and the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation. Today the plan envisions at least two 100-mile trail loops and several regional loops. It is being implemented by cities, counties, INHF and the Des Moines Area Bike-Pedestrian Roundtable. INHF was nominated for the award by Steve Bowman of the Iowa Department of Transportation.
