Marietta Sand Prairie expansion

Marietta Sand Prairie State Preserve, three miles west of Albion, is one of Iowa's finest examples of beautiful, rare sand prairie. Adjacent to the 17-acre state preserve is a 212-acre property with scattered, unprotected remnants of sand prairie and a rare fen wetland.

The Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation is helping the Marshall County Conservation Board purchase and restore this adjoining site, planting native species to connect the prairie remnants.

Just $15,000 is still needed for this $456,000 project. Learn more from the links below or by contacting Anita O’Gara or Cheri Grauer on our staff.  Or donate now, designating your gift to the Marietta addition, through our secure website.

Volunteers will be needed this fall to hand-harvest prairie seed and plant it on the addition. Those interested in volunteering should contact MCCB at 641-752-5490.
