Keep it Growing! Donate Now to Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation

Land donation expands
Muscatine County site

As 2003 came to a close, Ed Engroff of North Liberty donated 100 acres to the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation.

This floodplain property contains wetlands, pasture, timber, ponds and extensive frontage on both sides of the Cedar River. It's located about eight miles northwest of Muscatine and is adjacent to Wiese Slough, a 1707-acre recreation area owned by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

INHF will transfer the property to the IDNR in 2004, and it will become part of the Wiese Slough complex.

"The river moves a lot here and the banks are unstable, so I figured this land is better off in the state's hands than having people try to rip-rap it," said Engroff. "It's just full of deer, turkeys, turtles, bluebirds and other wildlife."

For more information, e-mail Cathy Engstrom, director of communications, or call (515) 288-1846.
