Ron Huelse
Hickory Ridge clean-up crew
Clean-up crew at Hickory Ridge,
Though the day started off foggy, the temperature was great! About 40 helpers of many ages participated on a November morning. Thanks to everyone!
Special thanks
to the Red Rock Lake Association, Russ Benedict and the Central biology students, Vermeer Corporation and Wayne Van Mersbergen, the Pella Boy Scouts and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

This information was last updated July 30, 2010.

Since its founding 40 years ago, the Red Rock Lake Association has worked closely with area partners to promote and develop the lake and its surroundings. In past years, RRLA has constructed fish habitat, designed and constructed courtesy docks, co-sponsored Bald Eagle Days, coordinated "Trash Bash" litter clean up events and much more.

Now, the Association has teamed up with the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation and The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to bring something primitive, wilderness camping to Lake Red Rock.

This spot is NOT yet open to the public, but partners' goal is to be ready for visitors in 2011.

Have fun creating a new, special place where all ages can learn about natural Iowa, can find inspiration – and play!

How You Can Help

- Volunteer to help with clean up and improvements being made at the property. We'll be posting future volunteer events.

- Speak on behalf of project

- Arrange for presentations to share the news with civic groups in central Iowa

- Share e-mail news about Hickory Ridge with friends and contacts

- Visit personally with potential donors

To volunteer in any of these ways, contact Ann Robinson at the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, phone 515-288-1846, ext. 24.
Let us know your interest (with your contact information) and we will keep you informed about volunteer opportunities at Hickory Ridge in 2010.

Pledges and donations are also needed. The grassroots nature of this effort means that individual, private donors are the key to the project. Partners are still seeking $36,000 in pledges or gifts to complete the project.
