president's corner:

Bigger magazine reflects even bigger efforts

This article first appeared in INHF's Winter 2006 magazine.

INHF stretched itself in 2005—including several large-scale projects still underway—and that’s reflected in this issue’s contents. We look forward to a very challenging and exciting 2006!

In this issue, you’ll learn about some of our most significant and costly projects ever—Angler’s Bay on Big Spirit Lake ($6.67 million), Central Iowa Trails system additions ($13 million) and Whitewater Canyon ($1 million). You will also see some very important conservation easements (a prairie and popular green space) —protecting special places in Iowa.

These projects are possible because of the Foundation’s agility, growing support for our work and strong partnerships.

This year we will need continued strong state legislative support for the Resource Enhancement and Protection Program (REAP), the state recreational trails program and special appropriations-—in addition to continued partnerships with our other private, local, state and federal partners.

But most of all, we need and value your continued support. You make our work possible: protecting the special places that we have, restoring what has been lost and leading with new ideas and opportunities.  Thank you!

Your conservation partner,

Mark C. Ackelson
