A Peek at 20 Years Ago

This article first appeared in INHF's Winter 2007 magazine.

Jasper County Conservation Board
Chichaqua Valley Trail, a previous INHF project, affords beautiful views all year round.

This year also marks the 20th anniversary of the first three INHF projects along the scenic Upper Iowa River:  Chimney Rock, Canoe Creek/Upper Iowa River Access and the Upper Iowa River Palisades. Since that big start in 1987, INHF has helped protect 22 additional sites within this river corridor. For tips on visiting, contact the Iowa DNR at 563-380-0496 or visit the “Featured Destination” section of INHF’s website.  There you’ll find information about the river’s natural resources, area attractions, local tourism links and more. Meanwhile, read about our newest Upper Iowa River project.

The conservation boards in Jasper and Polk counties, co-owners of the Chichaqua Valley Trail, are planning a 20th anniversary trail bash on May 19. Tentative activities include a biking event, bird hike, geocaching, bike safety and more. INHF helped with trail acquisition and fundraising.

For more information, e-mail Cathy Engstrom, Director of Communications, or call (515) 288-1846.
