DIY: Hanging K-Cup Planters

In the last few years, single cup coffeemakers like the Keurig have become increasingly popular, but throwing away a plastic cup every time you brew can make even the most savvy environmentalist feel guilty.
Fear not though, your INHF interns have the perfect craft to turn your coffee waste into an eco-friendly hanging planter.
What you’ll need:
- Used, empty Keurig K-Cups
- Dental floss
- Scissors
- Hole punch
- Window suction hooks
- Potting soil & small plants or succulents
Cut the foil cover and empty the coffee grounds out of used plastic K-cups. Make sure not to cut through the coffee filter layer of the cup – this will help hold the soil and plant inside the cup. Rinse out the empty cups and let them dry overnight.
Use a hole punch to punch four holes in each cup just under the top lip. Cut 10 strands of floss that are at least 12 inches long in order to make a strand of six cups. Use two strings of floss to connect two different cups, tying tight double knots so the cups won’t slip. To create the top cup on each strand, use a piece of string and thread through two remaining holes. This loop will hang the planter from the suction cup’s hooks.
Place upright cups in a row and fill with potting soil. Make sure soil is damp and plant miniature cacti or succulents in K-cups. Attach suction cups to your window of choice and hang a planter on each hook.
