Establishing Prairie: Selecting Seeds to Restore and Optimize Native Habitat

INHF is partnering with Practical Farmer's of Iowa (PFI) to provide a field day with the theme of Establishing Prairie: Selecting Seeds to Restore and Optimize Native Habitat. Lanc Brisbois, the deputy director of Golden Hills RC&D, and Cait Caughey, owner and operator of Mullein Hill Farm, will lead the field day. Come prepared to work as participants will help harvest prairie seeds. You’ll have the opportunity to pick, clean and sort your own prairie seed to take home.

INHF staff will also be present during the event. Visit the Practical Farmer's of Iowa's website to learn more about this field day and the other field days planned for the year.

Mullein Hill Farm is a diversified operation focused on herbs, vegetables, flowers and native plant greenhouse production. Cait has been working to restore portions of the farm back to native upland prairie through careful selection of eco-typical seeds.
