Take a sneak-peek at the Brenton Slough property through your lense! This 1,100-acre wetland and woodland complex near Grimes in central Iowa is a well-known haven for migratory birds and other wildlife. Practice your nature photography skills in a small group setting with a local photographer and tour this amazing property.
There are five different clinics to attend between September and October. Registration is required and the fee is $10.

- Monday, October 9, 7:30-9 a.m., with Marlen Kemmet
- Wednesday, October 11, 7:30-9 a.m., with Marlen Kemmet
- Saturday, October 14, 7:30-9 a.m., with Ty Smedes
- Thursday, October 19, 7:30-9 a.m., with Ty Smedes
These clinics are intended for a wide range of photography knowledge and skills. A a DSLR or Mirrorless camera and interchangeable lenses are recommended. Zoom lenses are best, along with perhaps a macro or closeup lens for intimate closeups of dewy or frosty things and detailed wildflower closeups. A moderate zoom like a 28-300mm would be ideal for scenic landscapes.
Attire/what to bring:
- A DSLR or mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses.
- Wear closed-toe shoes, long pants and long sleeves.
- Bring a full water bottle. You may also want sunscreen or bug spray.
- Note: there is one outhouse located on the property and a portable toilet will be available for all October Clinics.

You can search for Brenton Slough in a map application or use this google map. The entrance is on the south side of the property. Note that Brenton Slough is not yet open to the public; access to the property is only available during events like these until fundraising is complete.
