In 2023, INHF began partnering with Benton County Conservation Board (BCCB) to add 184 acres to the popular Wildcat Bluff Recreation Area. With the help of generous donors, a match effort by The Myers’ Family Conservation Fund and a successful REAP grant application, BCCB met their $1.3 million fundraising goal. The park addition is expected to open to the public in spring 2025.
Wildcat Bluff, bordering the Cedar River, is a popular park that includes a renowned frisbee golf course, camping, hiking, fishing and other outdoor recreation opportunities. This addition would more than double the size of this well-liked park, providing even more ways to get outside and protecting sensitive Cedar River floodplain.
The 184-acre addition includes the land surrounding the current entrance road to the park. It consists of a variety of habitat types including upland oak and hickory and riparian forests, minimal cropland and some pasture with signs of native prairie species. The addition will provide a scenic entrance to the park, protect another scenic bluff and expand on wildlife habitat.
